British Organic Geochemistry Society (BOGS) Meeting 2024

The University of Manchester is looking forward to hosting the 34th meeting of the British Organic Geochemical Society (BOGS). The meeting will be held on the 11th and 12th of Julyin-person, at The University of Manchester (Williamson Building).

Registration and Key dates

Abstract submission will close by Friday 23rd June 2024.

Registration can be done through this link, until Monday 1st July 2024. The costs will be £50 for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and £105 for everybody else (includes conference meal on Thursday 11th July).

We encourage submissions from different themes including:

  • Biogeochemical cycles
  • Palaeo-environments and palaeo-climates
  • Novel biomarker proxies
  • Environmental geochemistry

Abstract submission

Abstract submission will close by Friday 23rd June 2024. Please submit your abstract using the downloadable template, and send to BOGS2024@manchester.ac.uk.


Oral and Poster Presentation Information

Oral presentations are likely to be 12 minutes, with 3 minutes for questions. Talks can be prepared in 16:9 or 4:3 format. Poster presentations will also be available. All poster presenters will have the opportunity to give a 1-slide/1-minute flash talk. E-posters will be used, details (template) to follow.

The poster session will be held between 4-6pm on Thursday 11th July, refreshments will be provided.

  • Thursday 11th July: 10.00am-6.00pm – Talks and Posters (Williamson Building)
  • Thursday 11th July: evening – Conference Dinner
  • Friday 12th July: 9.00am-2.00pm – Talks, Posters, Prize-giving (including Lunch; Williamson Building)
  • Friday 12th July: afternoon – ECR event.

Keynote Speaker

Dr James Bendle, reader in Organic Geochemistry, from the University of Birmingham will be giving the keynote this year. More infomation about Dr Bendle can be found at https://jamesbendle.wordpress.com/.


Icebreaker and ECR Event

We will have an (informal) Icebreaker Event that will run between 6-9pm on Wednesday 10th July, as an initial get together to meet people attending BOGS this year. Food and drink can be purchased at the venue.

This year’s Early Career Researcher Event will take place at the end of the conference after the lunch on Friday 12th July. Attending the event is free, but prior registration to BOGS is required (will only run if min 15 attendees register for this event).

The focus this year will be on ‘How to get you research published’. During this workshop an Editor in Chief of the Elsevier journal Organic Geochemistry will walk you through all the aspects of the publication process from the early submission, through the review and rebuttal process to the final publication. If you ever wondered how to get your work published, how to write a good review or what the best way to deal with reviewers comments is please come along!
